Warehouse Industry – Hot Weather Hazards

When temperature soar, warehouse employees can pay a heavy price. Since they often perform strenuous or repetitive behavior in an enclosed space, warehouse workers are at an increased risk of heat stroke, a serious illness which occurs when the body can no longer control its temperature. When a warehouse employee suffers from heat stroke, their body temperature rapidly rises, which can lead to death, seizures, or other serious health complications.

Along with heat stroke, warehouse workers may experience other heat-related illness such as:

  • Heat rash
  • Heat cramps
  • Rhabdomyolysis, which can cause weakness and muscles cramps
  • Heat syncope, or fainting caused by heat

If left unaddressed, heat illness can lead to fatal complications. For example, rhabdomyolysis can contribute heart and kidney damage, while fainting from heat syncope could cause someone to suffer an injury like a broken bone or traumatic brain injury.
